Biography

Victoria McGinty currently serves as a freshman admission counselor at SXU. McGinty grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, before attending Mercyhurst University located in Erie, Pennsylvania. While at Mercyhurst, she obtained a bachelor's degree in history with a minor in English and a master's degree in secondary education. Following graduation, she moved to Chicago to begin her career in higher education.

McGinty is devoted to lifelong learning and scholarship, having academic and professional interests pertaining to educational leadership and inclusion. She is interested in pursuing a doctorate in higher education and hopes to advance her career. Outside of work, McGinty is a professional photographer and enjoys spending her time listening to her collection of vinyl records. She is incredibly excited to be a part of the SXU community.

Projects and Presentations

  • “Cleveland and Earth Day 1970: Catalysts for Environmental Recovery.” McGinty’s senior thesis explored her interests in American history and environmental history, centering around the disastrous Cuyahoga River fire of 1969 and how the tragedy’s impact led to the events of the first Earth Day in 1970 and a shift in the environmental movement of the 1960s (2022).

  • “COVID and the Classroom: How a pandemic forever changed the classroom.” McGinty’s capstone explored the impacts of the pandemic on the modern classroom, centering around the pandemic and how online learning impacted secondary-aged students, their adjustment to online learning, and the return to the classroom environment (2023).
